Youth Services Program Coordinator (Job Description) The Refugee Youth Services program Coordinator serves as a link between the two school systems the refugee kids and their parents. The goal is to improve communication between the International Center school and recreational systems as they seek to educate refugee kids. Refugee kids face lots of challenges that range from cultural adjustment, to language and transportation issues. It would be the role of this program to assist in alleviating these problems. The International Center also understands that School staff may lack the cultural knowledge and resources necessary to support refugee families. This program would seek to check in with the school system on any systemic issues, and assist in resolving them. This position reports to the Executive Director and would update the Executive Director weekly on the progress of the program. Duties of the Youth Services Coordinator will be, but not limited to: • Work with Case Managers to identify refugee school age kids and fill out the necessary paperwork to get them enrolled in schools, register kids in Headstart. This position would supervise the play place and its staff and volunteers • Ensure that the refugee kid (s) and family know exactly which school the kid (s) would attend and provide orientation to the parent and kid on when to wake up, prepare and be ready to get out of the house to catch the school bus where necessary. Conduct interviews with the child and parent to learn about the child’s needs and to provide the necessary assistance and prepare a service plan for the child • Serve as a link between the school systems, school staff and administration and respond in a timely manner to any concerns related to refugee kids who came through the International Center of Kentucky • Explore community resources that would be of assistance to refugee kids and the families and make referrals where necessary. Resources may include school supplies, home tutoring, after school programs, summer holiday activities etc • Participate in meetings with school officials as well as organize meeting with school kids and their parents where necessary• Any other activity as would be assigned by supervisor. Requirement • Bachelor’s degree in social science or any other related field • Candidate with experience working with refugees and immigrants especially kids, would be an added advantage. • Other Requirements: Driver’s license and reliable transportation. Must be willing to transport clients in personal or office vehicle.
